Today we Escaped armbars again.

  1. Slide elbow down and scoop though and twist around into their full guard.
  2. Push leg over head and trap it with head down. Twist and go into their guard.
  3. Push leg into foot hook and push it out then come around to side control
  4. We practiced stacking the attacker by penduluming legs to swing around side and put your leg up , then put the leg down close to their head to get the stack easier. Then put the right leg up behind their back and pull the arm out. (My spine cracked a few times today like I was at a chiropractor.)

We practiced S mount into the arm bar. I was shown that you want to push the foot near their arms almost sideways and under their arms, scooping their arms with your hands upward will help break the grip and the foot near their arms/head will help to lean forward and bring the other leg over their head, and sit back breaking their grip and pulling down toward their pinky to submit.

We did 4 down and 4 up and the rest against the wall. Today I participated for the first time, we put in mouthguards and the objective was to armbar or americana if you were on top , and escape using any escapes we just learned if you were on bottom. If you got full guard it ended, if you submitted it ended. Then the next person in line would take top and the previous top person would go to the bottom position.

I started on the wall, and after about 20 seconds I got to go on top of a person, we bumped fists and he slid out of my control after about 10 seconds and got full guard.

I was now on bottom. The person who came up was Jake? Anyway, I bumped him off my chest and tried to trap his arm but he struggled a lot and I couldn’t get any arms trapped. I don’t remember if he arm barred me , but it was a submission I think. Then I went to the wall again. After a few minutes I got to go over a man who escaped my mount pretty fast by shrimping and butterfly, I forget what this is called. And then I was on bottom against I think his son. He is small but he grabbed my arm and had my sides gripped with his legs and feet very well. He put me in an americana and I tapped. I told him good job and felt humbled! He is just a teenager and he can tap me, that is a powerful skill.

I finally got to eventually be on bottom again and had one more person who I trapped the arm and was trying to bump sweep to the left when I had his right arm. The teacher told me to go right and finally it worked.

This roll session was very brutal and I was reminded of a lesson I learned either from a book or from a podcast, some people raise the intensity and you match it, then it goes up more and more and you keep matching it then you are going to war with each other. That is really not how I want to train, and I need to avoid injury so I can’t be rolling like that unless I really trust my opponent to not hurt me. I think a more technical rolling session is more beneficial than an all out war with too much muscle, I actually was sore on my right knee and leg after the rolling and I have no idea which roll it happened or what I did. That is not a good thing. I know it isn’t a serious injury, but it just as easily could be.
