We did an omoplata out of arm bar attempt and escapes today.
We started by just going for the omoplata
Starting on bottom go for arm bar
- Lock legs behind their head pulling head down and one arm to attack
- Switch hands on head and grab arm with other hand
- Push head under the outside leg
- They pull arm out of your legs
- You turn and wrap their other arm with your leg and push their head to mat
Next we did an escape where you roll out
- Opponent goes for omoplata
- When your head gets to mat you roll over shoulder
- Sprawl for top control for points
Next we did escape by stepping over
- They go for omoplata
- You get face to mat
- Butt in air and step over their body to other side
- Come down and get cross face
Next we did solidifying the omoplata
- When the opponent goes for roll on mat you sit up and get to their top
- Keep their arm trapped
Next we finished the omoplata
- Get to the point that you have their arm wrapped and their face on mat
- Either a. pull on their belt and scoot to the side to flatten them or b. Grab their pant leg legally and their belt and pull them flat
- Finish the omoplata by making sure their arm is turned and fist is on your thigh (pointing towards the opponent), legs are pointed away from them and put pressure up towards their head to submit.
We rolled for the last 10 minutes
I had closed guard first , I couldn’t make much happen. I wasn’t controlling Don’s head well enough and breaking his guard enough for my leg triangles to work. I tried to swing and get his arm in the omoplata position twice , and failed.
When Don was on top he did well , attacking my arms with his legs and breaking my posture. He got an omoplata to submit me in one round. Once we got up against the wall I asked to stop and go out to the mat more. Then we had a lot of struggling with my passing to side but Don had good frames most of the time.
One thing I hit successfully: I did a rolling escape from the omoplata
One thing that failed: I failed the omoplata a few times because I wasn’t putting Don’s arm in the right position, it needed to have his fist up towards my thigh and not out where it was, otherwise he doesn’t feel any pain.
One thing I will try next class: I will try to break down my opponents stance from closed guard.
