We repeated what we did on Monday mostly, with one extra escape.(Sorry for the Copy Paste, but it is the same exact sequences.)
We did Leg Triangles and escaped from leg triangles.
From closed guard on bottom:
- Push one arm and pull the other arm
- Get legs locked behind their head and on arm trapped inside and one out
- Pull the arm across their face/neck and pull head down then trap with hips
- holding ankle/leg with hand, scoot (keeping head off mat makes it easier) to the opposite side of the trapped arm pushing off their hip with foot if needed.
- Lock the foot with the other leg while pulling their head down and choke.
Next, bottom person will Triangle and the top person escapes
Escape number 1:
- Look up and keep head up , square elbows on their hips
- Pull trapped arm outside
- Pass to side control
If you want, go inside with your hands and break the choke that way.
Escape number 2:
- Keep head up and square elbows
- Make space and bring knee and leg on side of trapped arm up to the elbow
- Turn and put knee on their side
- Break the triangle
Emergency escape 1:
- Grab the knee on the opposite of trapped arm side with both hands
- Push down to floor on side
- Push out of the leg triangle choke.
Emergency escape 2
- When trapped in leg triangle, stand up
- Sit backwards and break their leg lock
- Push their armpits with feet if needed to break
After class, I rolled one time with James. I swung to side control and went for D’arce, but couldn’t do it. I tried americana and almost got it. He got my leg when I tried to get a full mount. When I tried to americana he stretched his arm out straight and I couldn’t figure out where his elbow was to bend it. He had me wrapped up and pushed me away then started to push and pull with his legs and my arms controlled, I thought he tried to lasso guard and I pushed up and broke the grip (he told me later it wasn’t lasso but just his foot near my arm) I went to the other side, but he regained control. I ended up putting my left hand on the floor on his right side and he trapped it and told me that putting the hand on the floor is death, he arm locked it and slowly twisted it and I said tap. He eventually got the same move again in the next part we did.
I had to leave early , I wanted to roll with Don but my Mom was having a low insulin alert so I told her I wanted to go.
It was a fun night, Charlie was nice today, lol. Meaning he didn’t put a lot of weight on me when he would break the triangle with the knee on the chest move. Charlie taught me a move where you just sort of swing your foot over and hips and jump over the opponent to gain side control fast, which I can see working on many positional exchanges. It is a cool move I want to incorporate in the future.
One thing I hit successfully: I applied a leg triangle. (actually this time because I wasn’t quite doing it right on Monday)
One thing that failed: I failed to pummel my leg to full mount on James
One thing I will try next class: Switching gears from one attack to another faster and positional changes when one doesn’t work – going for different moves in more of a flow rather than waiting and giving the opponent a chance to do their moves.
