10/15/2026 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Class 40-41

Coach: Allison

Partner: Brian (I think)

We were doing D’Arce choke and escapes

From side control:

1 .under head and under their opposite arm

2. Bring the arm across their neck/face

3. Get my left elbow to the crook of their neck

4. Squeeze the hands and pummel the foot to full mount

5. Close any gaps and get the other leg also over to the other side towards their trapped arm

6. Turn and pull down towards your knees to finish the choke.

From bottom of D’Arce choke escape one:

  1. Get a telephone arm position to avoid being choked as much when they bring your arm across.
  2. When they turn to other side of body to finish choke grab the arm and make space to breath
  3. Walk around and keep making space to get out.

From the same D’Arce on bottom:

  1. Without phone arm position you need to grab opposite leg with trapped arm to make space
  2. Turn and try to escape or take their back

One tip Allison told us was that if you turn and point your finger away from you that you make a bit of space to breathe.

Another tip is that you can’t put your fingers in people’s face holes or it is penalized when going for frames.

We did a Turtle position D’Arce choke.

  1. You put the right arm through under their left arm when they are turtle and under their neck
  2. You go over their shoulder with the left hand and grab the other hand
  3. Clasp and turn them on their side
  4. Shoot the right hand through to the back of their head and apply downward pressure with weight. They should tap.

We Rolled for 5 minutes at the end:

The person on the bottom decided the position of top person.

I had Charlie and he started in turtle and let me lock around him over under. He falls to the side and I try to fight to side control and americana but I kept messing it up. He ended up getting full mount and we stopped. I had him a few times from this position but he would escape really well and push me off of him.

I rolled with Roland , he kicked my butt. We started with him in side-control. I was trying to do the reverse around but he was active and moving and attacking really fast. I couldn’t stop it in time and he full-mounted into a weird choke I have never experienced (smothering) it kept getting tighter and tighter and I tapped out.

I rolled with a different Charles. He is much smaller and agile. He instantly went to full mount from side position and attacked my left arm for americana. I just held it because he wasn’t strong enough to get the submission and I flipped him over and he went into closed guard.

For open mat I only rolled twice because I got sick in the second roll.

  1. I rolled with a brown belt named Joe whom I had rolled with the first open mat I went to. He thoroughly kicked my but and was sweeping me and holding me with his feet and my gi in ways I haven’t seen yet. He submitted me with a choke. We kept going and he did what he told me was a lasso guard where you grab the gi’s arms and go from outside and around the arm then push the foot into the ribs and pull in. This creates a lot of pressure on the arm and is hard to escape.
  1. The next roll I had was with a person I won’t name here (I don’t think I remember his name anyway). I know that this person and all the higher level belts were rolling for an hour straight pretty much, so there is a possible reason for what I will type about this. He smelled like literal crap. I think it was his hands because the first time I had to gag was when he was putting his hands near my face. He pulled closed guard from standing, and from there I kept smelling crap – I gagged probably 3 times before I rolled over and he saw me give up and asked me if I needed to stop, so I told him yes. I was nauseated sitting there in the gym and just didn’t want to puke on the mats if I could help it. I can’t even remember the actual roll that much other than he swept me over when I had to stop the roll.

I only got to roll for 15 minutes~ (most of it was talking to Joe). I wanted to go for 30 minutes, but I was just very tired and sick feeling after the second roll. I took off the gi and sat there then got my stuff and left.

I know some people have conditions or their sweat smells pretty bad, or maybe he touched another person who smelled, or maybe he didn’t wash his hands. It was really bad, but I won’t let it stop me. Most of the time I don’t have any issues like this.

One thing I hit successfully: I passed the legs of Joe by swinging around them and throwing them to the side.

One thing that failed: I failed to roll with somebody that smelled like literal crap

One(two) thing I will try next class: I will try to lasso guard somebody and drag takedown.
