10/12/2026 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Class 39

Note: I missed last class and open mat because I hurt my neck/trap muscles from doing headlock escapes. It healed up really well over the week and I am ready for classes again.

Coach: Allison

Partner: Don and Christian

We did bottom from side control escapes:

  1. Frame on their face.
  2. Frame on their hip.
  3. Walk around and turn them over.

From bottom:

  1. Push across their face and frame.
  2. Get them to reposition because they don’t want to be flipped.
  3. When they are repositioning you shoot under and wrestle up.
  4. You can go for the back, grab a single leg, and other positions from there.

From bottom:

  1. Get frame across their face
  2. Get other and under their body and on their other side
  3. Swing legs for momentum and turn while pulling their head down
  4. Push on ground with the other arm and sprawl out so they can’t attack legs.

Then we did a short roll session 4 groups down and the coach would assess our progress.

Rolling: With Gage I tried to spin around him from bottom and I got up to my knees, he had a lot of control and it was difficult, Alli stopped us when I got to knees. I did one against Austin, he is a lot heavier than Gage and taller, I tried to get out but I was struggling because I was not pushing on the face like we learned and Austin pointed this out to me.

When we came back to learn we did Americana from side or mount:

  1. Control their framing hand on opposite side
  2. Control their wrist to above their head and put pressure down with head down on hand
  3. Go under their bicep with right arm and grab my wrist
  4. Turn the arm towards their legs

We then rolled for the last 5 minutes:

I had Charlie and Austin mostly: Charlie was definitely going easy on me and I got around for a closed guard and we just stopped. Another roll with Charlie, I did the momentum wrestle up move and I fell sideways. I had a roll against Christian , he was bottom. He wrestled up and got away and stood up. When I faced Austin again, I was trying to swing my legs and had the hand on his other side with a face push, but I was going the wrong way. He told me to go the other way and it clicked and I spun out of the side control. I wouldn’t have done it if he didn’t tell me to go the other way. I think I was used to going on the other side when we were drilling. It feels weird to do the move because you sort of twist your head around then sprawl, it feels like acrobatics.

One thing I hit successfully: A twisting wrestle up escape move in rolling.

One thing that failed: I failed an americana because I was on bottom of Charlie and did not have any leverage even though I grabbed the arm properly.

One thing I will try next class: I want to roll against Don and try more single leg takedowns and maybe a judo throw basic trip move I learned.
