10/1/2026 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Class 35

Coach: ? Black belt

Partner: Don

We worked from having a butterfly grip both feet inside the partners legs:

  1. Pull on underhook one over
  2. Fall back and push them to the opposite side of underhook

Same starting position:

  1. Pull them to side and underhook them
  2. Grab their pant leg
  3. Flip them over to side of pant grab using leverage
  4. Bring knee up to their crook of the neck
  5. Gift wrap and grab wrist
  6. Put leg to their back
  7. Roll them over and seatbelt or giftwrap

From back control:

  1. Two on one arm
  2. Get hooks around their body
  3. Fall to side with the arm that is controlled
  4. Pull arm up and put opposite leg on their thigh
  5. Bring left leg up to their stomach
  6. Push their head down and bring right leg around
  7. Hook down with feet and squeeze knees
  8. Push hand south towards pinky for submission

I rolled for 3 rounds.

Don: I got to try take downs, I got one single leg after Don explained to me how to work it.

I did the arm break over the top that dad taught me and it worked to gain control. I talked to dad after tonight’s classes for more techniques to use.

I kept getting to a side control and half guard position on top of Don but I couldn’t complete anything. I was trying to put immense pressure down on him. I need to review notes for moves to use in this position. I tried americana and kimura but he is strong and I couldn’t trap the arm well enough. He was telling me to bring my elbows down on his legs when he would mount me up near my chest, but I felt like I couldn’t move my arms so I’m not sure if I just need to work on strength or the angle.

I was tapped to a leg triangle and a rear naked. We did 2 rounds.

James: He started open guard and I started standing, I tried to knee cut once or twice and tried x pass and tried smash pass, only the smash pass worked once and I got a partial full mount but I couldn’t do much from this position and drained a lot of energy. He choked me with his knee one time and I was surprised, he told me he wanted me to know that move was there. James got a gi choke once after a struggle. Once he almost bared me but I pulled my arm close and got out of it. He swept me when I would go over the top of his knee guard too much, two or three times. At the end, he pointed it out to me and wanted me to remember that.

One thing I hit successfully: A single leg takedown

One thing that failed: To dig my elbows into legs to create space on a full mounted opponent.

One thing I will try next class: To not get swept by putting too much weight over the knee of James. (and ask what the teacher’s name is.)
