We worked from side control:
- Holding arm scooped underhook and arm around their head
- Move with their escape attempts
Same side control but this time we would put pressure on them and spin around to other side:
- Hold arm and hook them
- Change hands when they try to frame
- Spin around to other side
- Get hands clamped control
- Repeat
From bottom side control:
- Frame on their hip and neck
- Push shrimp body and get arm under their hook
- Like a zombie movie put the hand up and wrestle up behind them
From top side control:
- Put hip to floor and keep feet in same position
- Come around their front and scoop under the arm
- Get wrist control
- Kimura from above them
From top side control:
- Hip to floor and feet in same position as normal side control
- Bring hand up to face and head down on their arm to hold it in place
- Push down their head and bring foot over their head
- Grasp hands and under their elbow
- Pull them up and towards the chest for armbar.
Class 33: Rolling was after class for about 30 minutes:
Don: I rolled twice with Don , he is very strong and was gripping my gi with straight arms, my dad says I can bring my arms around and down to break their grip and if they pull back then go forward. Eventually, Don got me to fall over and went to side control into full mount and helped me figure out how to escape full mount by bringing elbows down and towards his legs then escaping. The second roll went about the same with my just falling down eventually. He got me into full mount which I flipped him over with a sweep and he got me into a triangle which I fell back and sort of escaped but then he came back up and choked me into submission.
James: James is a blue belt and my brother’s friend of many years. He started in open guard and let me come at him how I wanted. I just sort of fell on top of him and tried to get side control which he fended off with knee guarding and flipped me over. He let me get back to side control about 3-4 times and explained to me how if I come over the top with too much force that he can scissor sweep me (I didn’t learn this sweep because I missed the class). He pushed me to keep going and we did 2 rolls that pretty much went the same way twice. He choked me with my gi once. At the end he wanted me to try to hold him down for a minute, he escaped and did a flower sweep at one point. He told me to keep moving.
Joe: Joe is a brown belt. He started in open guard and I tried to pass his guard. A few times he let me get kimura and americana on him (arm submissions), and he arm barred me twice or something, it is hard to remember because I was very tired at this point in class. He explained to me that I was going for the wrong knee at one point and I could smash-pass the other knee but I didn’t see it. The same thing happened when I went for the wrong arm for a kimura. He corrected me to go for the other arm if I wanted to do it. He let me submit him maybe 2-3 times which was awesome. He told me I didn’t want to face him with an open guard because he would just pass me super fast. He kept pushing me to get back into the fight and keep pressure and to think about my next move and control my breathing.
One thing I hit successfully: A kimura on multiple people tonight.
One thing that failed: I failed to take down Don from a standing position.
One thing I will try next class: Breaking arms holding my gi with an overhand push down that dad showed me.
