8/10/2026 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Class 27

Coach: Allie

Partner: Don

Today, we worked on passing half guards from top.

Starting top in half guard with their knee up:

  1. Shoot their knee out and get reverse half guard.
  2. Pressure one underhook and look away while crunching them to the left (my right leg trapped)
  3. Bring up hips to reverse half and scoot under their arms. If you can’t get under their bottom arm, scoot it up or swing back to half guard and then you don’t have their knee anymore to worry about.
  4. Scoot foot toe, heel, toe , heel etc. to get the knee out while pushing their leg down.
  5. Put the knee to mat and swing their arms up over their head with my arms
  6. Pry open their legs to get foot (pointed down) out of their legs

Starting from top in half guard with their knee up:

  1. Stand up and put hand on their inside hip or body
  2. Trapped knee down to mat.
  3. Push their arms up and trap them
  4. Swing trapped foot out and up to their arm
  5. Push their arm over and turn for side control.

We did rolling for 10 minutes at the end, bottom tries to escape or get closed guard. Top tries to pass guard. (not in order)

  1. I forget who I started with but I think he got closed guard to win
  1. I got a young 20 year old white belt, he ended up getting closed guard
  1. I got Don, I got a closed guard on him by pulling my foot out and wrapping him up
  1. I got the young white belt again(I think?) I tried to shoot his knee out and wiggle my foot up and out , but he was getting a good position so I tried to swing his knees around and go to the other side really fast but he was too quick and got his other knee up and said “ that almost worked!”. He got a closed guard.
  1. I got Kenny at the very end and he started with no knee up and I put all my weight on him and an underhook and looked away and pushed down and got reverse half into wiggling my knee up then I pushed my knee to the mat and pushed his arms up then pried his legs and pulled my foot out for full mount. That was the hardest roll I had all night. Kenny was encouraging and Allie was coaching me , it was a bit confusing hearing both people at once. I could pretty much feel Kenny giving me some slack, he is trying to help others learn when he can, the guy’s a machine. I know he could do a lot more!

Rolling:

One thing I hit successfully: Prying open a half guard from top position after pulling my knee out.

One thing that failed: Trying to shoot to the other side on a half guard pass instead of slowly dismantling the opponent from the side I was focused on.

One thing I will try next class: From top half guard Standing up , getting the hand inside and putting my knee down on the bottom leg and pushing their arms up and sliding the knee across like a baseball slide for side control.
