6/29/2026 Jiu Jitsu Class 19

Teacher: Alli

Partner: Troy

I got to class and saw Damione and Allison when I first went in, I said hi to them and talked about getting a knee brace tomorrow.

We started with escaping closed guard by turning our legs (not posting a foot or they can grab it) Troy is a blue belt and helped me a lot with technique, today. I met Troy for the first time when I tried Judo- he was my partner. Troy is 6’4” tall. Troy could basically just stand up and I would lose closed guard if I wasn’t holding tightly with my feet.

Next, we learned to put our arms with thumbs up into their armpits when they are in closed guard. Then, I stand onto one foot and then the other and put one foot in the middle of their legs and push down and break their guard and escape.

After that, we learned sweeping from the bottom. We learned the bump sweep, we would wait until the opponent shifted their weight back and pull up with one(my left) leg posted and swing the left arm  over their left arm and post my right arm and bridge up my hips to sweep them over to the right side from closed guard.

We then did a leg triangle. We learned to go for the bump sweep but fail it and don’t go for their arm but instead you bring the same side leg around their shoulder and over their head. Hook the feet then pull their left arm across their face/neck and pull the head down. Then , either squeeze my knees or get the left leg over the right foot to choke the opponent.

Note: In many of these positions there are a lot of variables and possibilities for control and submissions that are shown in class and hard to describe quickly. That’s why it is an artform, because there is creativity and many options to figure out and master.
