6/25/2026 Jiu Jitsu Class 18

Warm-up: shrimp across room, break fall roll over backwards (I didn’t do that one)
I have been recovering from a knee/leg injury, but I am finally back to the gym.
My partners were Roland and a purple belt I didn’t get the name of. My teacher was a black belt that I also did not learn the name of.
Today, we worked on a takedown first. They grab your lapel and you grab their shoulder and hand , pull them down, and step behind their foot and grab their leg driving forward. You scoop up the leg with both hands, then you trip the other leg to take them down.
We did a smash pass today, which I was told by the teacher that will be my best pass because of my size. I would grab the pants and grip the fabric when they are on the ground with both legs up. I put one leg through in the middle of their legs and come down on their left side if I have my right leg in the middle and vice versa for my left leg in the middle.
From there, I grip around their gi neck and grab their leg pants and push their knee down. I escape with the right(or left) leg and wait for them to either turn toward me ( I get side guard control) or they turn away and turtle position and I take back control.
Next, we added onto this smash pass by noticing if they shrimp away from us we go down with the knee and get under hook on the opposite side. From here, you pull up the opposite arm and do a baseball slide with the trapped leg (other leg is posted). Then you can gift wrap or many other things.
At the end we rolled king of the hill. I wanted to sit out but I got to roll with 2 people because I felt up to it. I did a smash pass and it worked, then I got passed by the next person and then I sat out to give my leg a break. It was a good class to come back to after missing classes for a week.
