6/8/2026 Jiu Jitsu Class 16

Teacher: Alli

Partners: Charlie and Juli

We started by reviewing Americana from a mounted position. You push an arm above the head and put your opposite forearm down and head down then curl your opposite wrist and go under their arm with the same side arm (under their bicep) and grab your other forearm. Then you want to bend/pull down to complete the submission.

We then reviewed the S mount, where you turn to an altered mount from full mount and put your knee behind their head and slide your foot under their arms and scoop their arms , lean or post arm to swing the leg behind their head around for completing the armbar. The opponent, or yourself in their position, can escape this by twisting around before they pull too far and swing around their side holding their thigh.

We then did a bow and arrow choke where I had to use my own gi to wrap around the neck of Charlie. Then I scoop his thigh/knee, and twist the choking part away and get my leg over his shoulder opposite the gi side. It is a little confusing because my partner wasn’t in a gi for this one.

We then did a collar choke by sliding the hand across the neck and behind their collar and reaching out with the other arm across to the mat. Then you push the head with your elbow and grab the gi behind their head and pull down to choke them out. We had Juli come over to help me practice this one.

Then, we did a neat kimura where you do the altered mount but instead of an armbar, you straighten the arm out and twist it back and down to submit. This one is a little confusing to me on the angles. I will need to review it with a coach.

Charlie showed us a choke where you put your arm behind their head , then you put the opposite hand in front of the throat and grab the bicep and choke them out.

At the end we did a live roll for maybe 8-10 minutes. I will try to recall what I can. I had Charlie as a rolling partner.

I was on top first and went for the americana and he dismantled the attempt and sat up and I think eventually got my side and back. I tried an S mount into the armbar and this failed the first one or two attempts.

Sometimes I got around Charlie to his back but my leg was trapped so I couldn’t get hooks in to do a back rear naked choke or anything. A few times I got some sweeps on him. I did grab a fast americana one time that submitted him. I got an s mount armbar that worked one time, when Alli called to me to do the S mount from americana attempt.

I think Charlie goes easy sometimes to let me get the moves, we are only supposed to go 75% and it makes sense he leaves an arm open for a submission sometimes. I really don’t need to give him anything for him to get moves because he is stronger and faster.

He did the S mount armbar (which you can see coming from a mile away because of the way it is set up) and I did the twist escape but he held onto the arm and we just wrestled around for awhile trying to get advantageous positions.

At the very end Charlie smothered me into submission by pushing my head into his stomach and laying on me. I tapped pretty fast because I just couldn’t breath or think of a way out.
