5/18/2026 Jiu Jitsu Day 11

5/18/2026 Jiu Jitsu Day 11

The instructor was Allison.

My partners were Austin and Charlie.

Today, we reviewed an escape from bottom being mounted, you capture the arm and bring it to your body and bump sweep to get on top. If you do the arm scoop from over top of their arm the Uke wants to turn their wrist up or it could get broken, that’s why pulling it to the chest is safer for practice.

From top if you notice the opponent trying to do this, you do an altered mount putting your knee behind their back when they turn over. You bring your knee up to behind their head and put your right foot near their arms, up their chest and this is some sort of S stance. Then you lean on the right leg on their side and bring the left leg around their head and scoop their right arm with your left arm and pull them into an arm bar.

We practiced this a lot. Then we learned an escape from the arm bar which was basically that you pull your head and arms close to your body and you turn with them as they are arm barring you. Then you make a post with the un-locked arm and pull the arm barred arm out from their legs. Then you swing around and scoop them from behind.

We worked on learning the Americana. I push down with both hands on their arm that I want to trap above their head when I am mounted. Then I hold their wrist with one hand and slide the other behind their bicep and lock my arms. From there, I would start tilting their shoulder down towards my leg or their side to get the submission. If having trouble we could bring our foot around to side control and try to keep twisting from there.

Today was a good class and I learned a lot.
