4/13/2026 Day 7
Teacher: Allison
Partner: Charlie
Note: I can grab my own gi with fingers inside. If I can’t get my leg down for a triangle try to bring knees together and extend legs and push knees together to make the choke happen.
We learned to escape from the bottom when the opponent has side control. Bring the right hand and elbow inwards, towards their hip and push with the left hand on their face to make space. Hip escape to the left and bring the left leg around their hip and hook them grab their side with the left arm up by their shoulder. Then push them over and take their back.
I did the same thing again and then we were taught that if they are scooting away with their legs then I want to get onto my knees and post my right arm on the ground and push up to get out of headlock.
I forget how we got to the one part, but you want to break their headlock then you will push off the ground and pull the head up and their grip will break. Speaking of breaks, I had to take about 3-4 breaks where I just sat and breathed. I feel a lot stronger now than when I started. I am trying to be calm and breath.
At the end I rolled with Charlie. We did a top/bottom where one starts bottom and one starts top then we live roll and then after it ends we switch. I was just trying to survive and stay calm the entire time. I tried to wrap up Charlie as he would gain positional advantage and I tried to stop his submissions. I tried to remember some of the moves that I had learned over the last few weeks.
Charlie smothered me, he squeezed my head at one point and it was painful so I tapped out. I can’t remember how many times he submitted me with armlocks , but I am sure it was many. He is very agile and did some spin moves that passed my guard. I tried to do a sweep but he had full side control and I couldn’t make it work. He had an answer for most of my moves. I tried to focus on my breathing. This is the second time I have “‘live” rolled in my life. Rolling is a lot of fun, even when I lose.
